Eskridge Auto Group is seeking an experienced, hands-on Human Resources Director to lead HR functions across our organization. This position partners closely with dealership leadership and department managers to recruit and retain great employees, develop our team, strengthen our culture, and ensure consistent HR practices throughout the company.

The Human Resources Director oversees recruiting and onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, payroll support for our Honda location, compliance, workers’ compensation, training, employee engagement, and retention. This role also serves as a trusted resource to managers, assisting with staffing, employee development, performance issues, succession planning, and overall organizational effectiveness.

We are looking for a proactive, organized, and people-focused HR professional who can balance employee needs with business objectives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate enjoys building relationships, developing people, improving processes, and taking ownership of the HR function.

This position will be based at our Lexus location and will travel to our other dealership locations weekly. A company-provided gas card is included as part of the compensation package.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR leadership experience preferred.
  • Automotive dealership or multi-location retail experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication, organization, judgment, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

Recruiting, Hiring & Onboarding

  • Manage recruiting and hiring for dealership positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, background and reference checks, offers, onboarding, and employee referrals.
  • Partner with managers to identify staffing needs and develop job descriptions.
  • Develop and maintain an effective onboarding and first-week training process for managers and new employees.
  • Build relationships with technical schools, colleges, and other recruiting resources.
  • Coordinate new-hire orientation, required documentation, training, and 30/60/90-day follow-up.
  • Employee Relations & Performance
  • Serve as a resource for employees and managers regarding workplace and personnel matters.
  • Investigate employee concerns and assist with conflict resolution.
  • Coach managers on performance management, counseling, documentation, and corrective action.
  • Manage the performance review process and assist managers with establishing measurable employee goals.
  • Promote fair, consistent, and properly documented employment and disciplinary practices.
  • Identify high-potential employees and support career development and advancement opportunities.

Benefits & Payroll

  • Serve as a resource for employee benefit questions.
  • Process payroll for the Honda location and provide backup payroll support for other locations.
  • Maintain accurate records for compensation, deductions, and employment status changes.

Compliance & HR Administration

  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Oversee personnel records, I-9s, employment documentation, driver’s license records, required postings, OSHA compliance, and HR recordkeeping.
  • Manage workers’ compensation, FMLA, and return-to-work processes.
  • Assist leadership with unemployment claims and other employment-related matters.
  • Maintain and update the Employee Handbook and company HR policies.
  • Stay current on employment law changes and periodically review HR practices for compliance.

Training, Engagement & Retention

  • Coordinate company-wide, department-specific, and manufacturer-required training.
  • Partner with managers to identify employee development and leadership training needs.
  • Develop initiatives to improve employee engagement, morale, and retention.
  • Conduct exit interviews and monitor employee turnover trends.
  • Recommend improvements to compensation, management practices, training, and workplace culture.
  • Coordinate the annual manager leadership forum.
  • Support employee recognition and advancement opportunities.

Management Support

  • Serve as an HR advisor to the Dealer Principal, General Managers, and department managers.
  • Assist with staffing, promotions, transfers, organizational changes, and succession planning.
  • Manage content for the E3 company-wide meeting.
  • Track and report key HR metrics, including turnover, recruiting, staffing, absenteeism, and retention.
  • Participate in management meetings and provide guidance on personnel matters.
